Amalfi Day Two- Sunday March 7th 2010
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN!! In the morning we got a free continental breakfast: croissants, toast, cereal, and juice like every other hotel in Europe. After Breakfast we packed up, showered, and got on a bus to Ravello where we hiked through Positano. Positano was amazing- it was situated high on the mountaintop overlooking the city of Amalfi down below. We took a lot of pictures and hiked for a couple hours before we took a bus back to Amalfi Coast. It seemed like we waited for the bus for forever, and it was so cold, so we were getting annoyed with wainting around. We missed our bus at 4:00 to Salerno, which might have ruined our evening, but we tried to stay positive. The next bus didn’t arrive until 6:00, so we ended up getting gelato and chocolate in Amalfi and walking around shopping. One of the most depressing parts of the evening was an abandon dog we found that was limping and seemed blind.. one of its eyes looked fogged. It was weazing real bad and I was getting really sad when it was limping down the street. The worst part is… no one did anything about it. It didn’t seem to phase anyone that a sick dog was walking the street. At 6:00 we boarded a bus to Salerno.. which took about an hour to get to. From Salerno we took a train to Rome, which departed about an hour after we arrived. On the train to Rome we didn’t have the right ticket.. our ticket was a one way ticket from Florence to Salerno and we needed to buy a ticket from Salerno to Rome.. which we then had to pay 34 euros to get. Ohh well.. we were able to sit in first class! We arrived in Rome around 10 or 11 only to realize that the next train for Florence didn’t depart until 6:15 the next morning and wouldn’t arrive in Florence until 10:47.. 13 minutes before my class at 11:00. So we found a hotel, after looking around for nearly an hour, for 50 euros a night, located pretty close to the train station. The hotel was nice.. but it smelled aweful. I don’t know if it was the cleaning solution they used or what.. but we left the windows open all night. Another burden to the night was my debit card wasn’t working… so Cassie paid for my train ticket on the train, as long as I paid her back. We got to the hotel just before midnight.. and we were going to check out around 5:30.. lets just say tomorrows gonna be a good day. AHH I love being stuck in Rome!!
