Day Thirty Four

Ruins in Pompeii

Naples, Italy at Night

Tuesday, February 9th 2010

Tuesdays and Thursday are the busiest days of the week by far. When you have 20 credit hours and only about two days of classes (besides Forces on Mondays), those two days seem like forever. Italian was a good way to start the day- we sang happy birthday in Italian to Taylor and Nicoletta entertained us as always. In Sketching and Drawing we went to a piazza on the other side of Ponte Vechhio and sketched for two hours. Italian art was a class lecture on the arena chapel, urban design and studio were extensive lectures on projects and buildings across Europe- mostly mediatheques- which is what or project is all about. Shortly after studio we had our first “Reading Cities” meeting/lecture on our first trip to Rome next week- which seems very interesting and fun. I worked out with Bryce today again and went to Twice with Ashleigh, Luke, TJ, Rob, and Justen.

We were supposed to leave for Rome tonight and then take a train to Greece in the morning for the weekend, but our flight was cancelled due to a strike by the Greece Air Traffic Control. Apparently, their tracking system was intercepting radio signals and they would be listening to music instead of getting the air traffic signals they required- so in an attempt for government action, they went on strike. As a result, our flight was cancelled and we have to get a refund for our flights- not to mention cancel our hostel reservations, ferry ride to Santorini, and hostel in Rome. Not a good start to a six day weekend.
